Digital Archiving & Preservation Policy

  1. Commitment to Long-Term Access

World Nutrition is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all published scholarly content. As a fully open access journal, the journal recognizes its responsibility to safeguard the scholarly record and to ensure that articles remain permanently available to readers, authors, and the wider public health nutrition community.

  1. Digital Preservation Strategy

To ensure long-term digital preservation, World Nutrition employs a distributed and redundant archiving approach, combining persistent identifiers, author self-archiving rights, and repository-based preservation.

2.1 Persistent Identifiers (DOIs)

  • All articles published in World Nutrition are assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) through Crossref.
  • DOIs provide a permanent, stable link to published content, even if website URLs change.
  • DOI metadata is maintained and updated to support long-term discoverability.

3.  Repository-Based Archiving

    3.1 Author Self-Archiving

World Nutrition permits and actively encourages authors to deposit their work in institutional, disciplinary, or other repositories of their choice.

Authors may archive without embargo:

  • The submitted version
  • The accepted manuscript (Author Accepted Manuscript)
  • The published version (Version of Record)

This policy ensures that journal content is preserved across multiple independent platforms.

    3.2 Institutional and Community Repositories

In addition to the journal website, articles may be preserved through:

  • University and institutional repositories
  • Subject-based or disciplinary repositories
  • National or regional open access repositories

This distributed archiving approach reduces reliance on a single hosting platform and enhances resilience against data loss.

  1. Website-Based Preservation
  • All published articles are hosted on the World Nutrition website in PDF format.
  • The journal maintains backups of its website content and article files.
  • Accepted articles are professionally prepared and stored as part of the journal’s permanent record.
  1. Open Access and License Support for Preservation

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License, which explicitly permits:

  • Copying
  • Distribution
  • Preservation
  • Archiving

by libraries, repositories, and other preservation services, provided proper attribution is given.

This licensing framework supports lawful long-term preservation by third parties.

  1. Continuity of Access

In the event that World Nutrition were to cease publication, the journal is committed to ensuring continued access to its published content through:

  • DOI persistence via Crossref
  • Repository-based archiving of articles
  • Author-retained copies in institutional and public repositories

This ensures that the scholarly record remains accessible beyond the lifecycle of the journal platform.

  1. Transparency and Review

This Digital Archiving & Preservation Policy is reviewed periodically and updated as needed to reflect evolving best practices in open access publishing and digital preservation.
